NIA searches Saokat Molla’s home and party office, son questioned in Bhangar blast case
Security lapses in West Bengal’s government hospitals have once again come under scrutiny after several disturbing incidents in recent weeks. A high-level review meeting was convened at Nabanna on Saturday under the leadership of the Chief Secretary, with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee joining virtually.
According to officials present, the Chief Minister sharply questioned how a minor could be taken to a men’s restroom inside a government hospital without immediate detection. She also demanded to know why the entire episode went unrecorded on CCTV, despite prior instructions to ensure comprehensive surveillance in all hospital premises.
The meeting also saw discussions on the accountability of contract workers, with the Chief Minister reportedly asking why the government should bear responsibility for crimes committed by individuals hired through third-party agencies. Department heads were directed to strengthen hospital vigilance, ensure proper background checks of staff, and submit detailed reports on the existing security infrastructure.
Officials emphasized that maintaining safety in public healthcare facilities remains a top priority, and any negligence will invite strict administrative action.
